Father, Thank You for Being the Resurrection and the Life – 30 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 18

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. – John 11:25

2020 has brought with it a lot of uncertainty, confusion, loneliness, and loss. Dear friends have had to say goodbye to loved ones, and still more fight for life even now. This year, more than ever, we can rejoice in the hope of our Savior, the Resurrection, and the Life.

Because Jesus Christ took the death we deserve and was raised with power, we also can be raised with Him to walk in the newness of life both now and through eternity. We are dead to sin through His death, and alive to righteousness. This means that sin doesn’t have the rule over us anymore. It also means that after our earthly death, we will have sin-free, resurrected bodies just like our Lord, Jesus Christ! (Romans 6)

We will pass through the shadow of death here on earth, but we don’t need to ever face eternal death or separation from our good God. Instead, we get to experience eternal life with Him and those who have trusted in Him. What a sweet reunion that will be!

For now, we weep with those who weep, we continue to kill sin in our lives, and we offer the hope of Jesus Christ to a dying world.

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. – Romans 8:9-11

PRAISE: Praise God for giving complete victory over sin, death, and the grave.

THANKSGIVING: Thank God for the incredible hope you have in Him because of the resurrection of Christ from the dead.

CONFESSION: Ask God to remind you that you are dead to sin and alive to Him. Ask God’s forgiveness if you have not been walking in the resurrection power He freely provides.

FURTHER STUDY: Breathe in God’s truth from His Word about His resurrection power. Then, breathe out your response to Him in prayer.
