Father, Thank You for Being All-Wise – 30 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 6

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. – Romans 11:33-36

According to the Myriam Webster Dictionary, wisdom can be defined as “the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships: INSIGHT, good sense, accumulated philosophical or scientific learning: KNOWLEDGE, or a wise attitude, belief, or course of action.”

Notice the connection between knowledge, insight, and action. God possesses all knowledge past, present, and future. He knows and understands the intricacies of the tiniest molecules within each human cell all the way to the complexities of the largest star (which He has named) in the furthest galaxy. There is never a time that He forgets any of this information. Dark is light to Him, our thoughts and the reasons for those thoughts are known before we even think them.

Using this incredible knowledge, this Holy God makes perfectly holy and wise plans designed for the benefit of His creation and the glory of His name. Notice the difference between God’s actions, judgments, and insights versus what mankind considers to be wisdom from the following passage. Also, make note of the results of each type of wisdom.

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14) But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15) This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16) For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17) But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18) And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. – James 3:13-18

This same all-wise God graciously promises to liberally share His wisdom with us! (James 1:5) He is always generous with His gifts, and He desires that we walk in His wisdom. What a precious gift of grace! We only need to come humbly asking in faith to receive it.

PRAISE: Give praise to God for His perfect knowledge and unchallenged wisdom.

THANKSGIVING: Thank God for graciously sharing His wisdom with all those who seek Him.

CONFESSION: Ask God’s Spirit to reveal where you have been thinking or acting with worldly wisdom instead of heavenly wisdom. Ask God to grow you in His wisdom as you seek to know Christ more deeply through His Word.

FURTHER STUDY: Breathe in the God’s truth through the following passages, then breathe out your response to Him based on that truth.

Isaiah 42:9; James 1; James 3:13-18; Ephesians 1:15-17, Proverbs 2:6
