Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. – Psalm 90:2
Some things in life seem to last forever. Like, 2020 for example, or even just this election cycle. But, we know that just as everything on this earth had a beginning, it will also have an ending. That vacation we felt like would take forever to get here has already come and gone. The difficult circumstance we thought would never be able to get through may have already ended (or we may still be going through it wishing that it would.)
What a sweet assurance that God has no beginning or end. He has always been, so He has missed nothing and there is nothing He needs to learn. He will always be, so you have nothing to fear for the future.
We need this reminder to thank God for His everlasting nature because we can become very tunnel-visioned. We need the reminder that though this season may be very hard, the eternal God is working out an eternal weight of glory that could never be compared to the pain we may be experiencing now. (2 Corinthians 4:17) We need the reminder that God is the only everlasting source of joy, peace, and satisfaction when earthly loves have failed or passed. (John 4) When we feel our own strength failing, and we watch time slipping away, we need the reminder that God’s everlasting strength will sustain us. (Deuteronomy 33:27) When we get frustrated waiting for God’s justice to come about, we can remember that our timeless God is patiently at work fulfilling every promise in His own perfect timing and way. (2 Peter 3:9)
God not only comforts our hearts in this temporal life through His everlasting nature, but He offers everlasting life to all who place their trust in Him. We have eternity ahead to enjoy our true everlasting Treasure!
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I See am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6) And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7) The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and See he will be my son. 8) But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:5-8
