Father, Thank You for Being My Savior – 30 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 15

I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior. – Isaiah 43:11

When humans decided to rebel against God, the only true source of light, love, and life, they were given over to the natural consequences of that choice. Death, corruption, and chaos are the result of abandoning Life. (Genesis 1-3; Romans 1)

We are born into this chaos and race toward death. We are born enslaved to sinful desires that promise all that we are seeking but only lead to destruction. In our pride, we fight against God and pretend that we have no need for Him when in reality, we desperately need a Savior. Even when we see death and hurt around us, we want to blame others or even God. When we see that we are lacking joy and hope, we turn to ourselves to find fulfillment only to be met with more emptiness.

But God! Thank the Lord that while we were His enemies, He came to rescue us from sin’s power and punishment! Only God who is love and life could save us.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:1-10

God freely offers salvation to all who turn from their pride and sin and fall on His goodness and grace. Thank God for His compassionate love that has rescued us from the power of darkness and turned us into His very own children of light! What a Savior!
