Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
– Genesis 1:26-28
As a graphic designer, I spend a lot of time, effort, and emotion in what I create. I have a purpose in mind that I am aiming toward, and I will tweak and adjust until the design accomplishes the purpose for which it was created. I say create, but really all that I make is borrowed and re-purposed.
God, of course, is the only true Creator. He designed the entire universe and every minute detail that is part of the universe out of nothing. He designed everything for a distinct purpose. He designed humans with a special purpose above all other parts of creation. God, also formed you meticulously to reflect His very image and to fulfill His specific purpose for your life. Dwell on the beautiful truth that God has designed you specifically to take part in the same fellowship and unity enjoyed by the members of the Trinity.
God had no trouble creating or designing as I often do. He didn’t need any “redos” or “makeup” sessions. However, He has given us the freedom to choose to trust in His wisdom and purposes or go in our own way. Our decisions have broken God’s original design. But, our Master Designer will fix all that we have broken and renew His creation completely. What a comforting promise that He will accomplish His ultimate purpose in my design regardless of the foolish and destructive choices I have made here on earth.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
– Philippians 1:6
