“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
– Revelation 4:11
When God breathed out creation, the power of this act didn’t stop and has continued to move and create and sustain. (Colossians 1:16-17) Consider the discoveries of humanity, the art, music, technology, and creativity that continues to pour out. This is all a gracious gift from a gracious Creator.
Dwell on the wonder of creation. How does the variety, abundance, beauty, life, and order display both God’s good character as well as His authority? God is a good Father, and He receives pleasure from creating that which brings you so much delight.
Of course, we see brokenness in creation every day. Pollution, war, disease, death, and destruction reign on earth. It breaks God’s heart to see how His creation has continually destroyed themselves and the good world He made. Even now, all of creation is groaning awaiting the day when our good God will restore and re-create. (Romans 8:20-25) If this broken world can still hold such beauty and joy, just imagine what the new heaven and earth will contain! And, we as God’s children get to be a part of that eternal new creation reigning with God forever.
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3:13
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.” – Isaiah 65:17
Even more incredible is the fact that God creates a new heart inside of us when we accept His gift of salvation, and one day we will have a perfect, newly created body like that of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Praise God! (2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 3:21)
PRAISE: Give God glory for the beauty and wonder of His creation and for the promise of what is to come.
THANKSGIVING: Thank the Lord for how He continually delights your senses through His good gifts of creation. Thank Him for the ability He has given you to imagine, dream, plan, build, and engineer.
CONFESSION: Confess to God if you have worshipped His creation in place of Him, your Creator. Have you taken for granted any of His creation? Ask God to remind you of His goodness and glory as you daily enjoy His handiwork.
