Day 7: Jesus Christ is the WORD of God

Breathe in God’s Truth

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1-2, 14

Passages to Study: John 1:1-14; 1 Peter 1:23; Romans 10:14-17

The Ancient philosopher Heraclitus was the first person to use “The Word” about a force or being. The idea was the unsourced source of all things. It’s no wonder that John borrowed this phrase to describe Jesus Christ at the very beginning of his Gospel account. What better description to use of our Lord than that which means the uncreated creator or source of all things? Through Jesus’ powerful Word, He communicates not only meaning and understanding, but He communicates life itself. His words hold power beyond what we could comprehend. What a privilege to be communicated to from this Living Word of God!

Questions to Consider

  1. How does the Apostle Paul describe the written Word which communicates to us about Jesus Christ, the Living Word? (Hebrews 4:12)
  2. Are you faithfully reading, treasuring, and living God’s Word?

Breathe out Your Response

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for being God’s living, complete message of Himself to us. You are the uncreated creator whose Word contains all power and majesty. You spoke the worlds into existence and You will judge all evil with Your Word. Help me to live according to Your written Word that communicates Your glory to me.
