True Wisdom – James 3:13-18

3. True wisdom requires faith in God and His Word.

Hebrews 11:1-3, 6; Proverbs 3:5-7

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5-8)

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. (Proverbs 9:10)

Study it Out

  1. Read Romans 1:18-31 and note the exchange of heavenly wisdom for earthly wisdom. What are the results?
  2. Meditate on the correlation between God’s gift of the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ and God’s gift of wisdom which is also through faith?
