True Wisdom – James 3:13-18

17. True Wisdom listens and is open to reason.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (James 1:19-21)

Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Proverbs 29:20)

The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. (Proverbs 10:8)

Study it Out

  1. Do you find yourself thinking of your own response while the person you are speaking with is still talking? What does this habit say about the wisdom you are using? How does Proverbs 29:20 describe this type of behavior?
  2. What will you be unable to receive if you are hasty in your responses and anger according to James 119-21?
