Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)
God warned Adam and Eve that choosing their own way instead of trusting God would bring death to them and the good world He created. As soon as they chose to disobey God, they died spiritually (they became separated from God), and their bodies began the process of dying physically. Just as we discovered in the last post, life is found in God alone, so the consequence of rebelling against God is death. We still experience this separation today because we continue to choose our own way.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
