God is Glorified as We Know Him More
God gave us His Son, Jesus Christ that we might enjoy eternal life with Him. Christ clarifies what this life entails when He says, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3)
This shouldn’t surprise us since the Trinity enjoys an intimate love relationship. God redeemed us so that we could be united with Him in that same love relationship. He desires that we know Him personally and experientially.
Because God is an invisible Spirit, He has made a way for us to know Him through His Word. Just as Moses’ face shone with glory after He spent time with God gazing at His glory, we are also transformed through gazing at the glory of Christ found in Scripture.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)
Because we still have the trappings of our sinful flesh, we are in constant need of refreshing our hearts and minds with the truth of God’s Word. It is in the Word that the lies of our flesh, this world, and the devil are replaced with the beautiful, life-giving truth of God. He has also graciously given us the Holy Spirit so that we might understand what He is telling us through the Word. (1 Corinthians 2:6-16)
