God Is Glorified in Our Blessing

To further prove the point of God’s desire to share His glory, take note of what brings Him the most praise and glory. Just as He is glorified when His Son is honored and exalted, He is also glorified when His creation experiences His full blessings of redemption, forgiveness, adoption, and a shared inheritance with Jesus Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:3-14)

The passage above shows us the incredible blessings with which God graces His children. His glory is magnified by this outpoured grace, and God delights to forgive, rescue, and reconcile His enemies, making us beloved children with all of the privileges of His firstborn Son.

While we enjoy some of those blessings here on earth, we will fully experience His love throughout eternity when we are completely set free from sin and suffering. Ephesians 2:7 tells us that God will spend the remainder of eternity demonstrating the riches of His grace and kindness toward us. What glory we have to look forward to!

Study it Out

  1. Read Ephesians 1-2 and list out the specific blessings God has lavished upon His children. Make special note of who we were apart from Christ compared to what we enjoy as His redeemed ones.
  2. Read Philippians 1:9-11. How are God’s blessings designed to change us? How is He in the process of glorifying us (or making us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ)?
  3. Read Romans 8:14-17 and Colossians 1. Make a list of God’s blessings to His children listed in these passages as well.
